HARARE, Zimbabwe – Zimbabwe’s opposition says it doesn’t expect fair treatment from the Constitutional Court on an appeal over July 31 elections that the electoral commission said President Robert Mugabe won by a large margin.

Douglas Mwonzora, spokesman for the opposition Movement for Democratic Change, said Friday it is waiting for another court to order the release of crucial election material to corroborate claims that up to 1 million eligible voters were prevented from voting and that ballots were cast in the names of dead people.

Mwonzora said the Constitutional Court, made up of Mugabe’s loyalist judges, has barred cross-examination of witnesses that would expose voting irregularities.

MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai described the elections as “a monumental fraud.”
