MASVINGO – The First Lady Grace Mugabe will tomorrow hold a rally at Mushayavanhu Business centre in Gutu district in Masvingo province.
Today, the controversial First Lady is addressing another rally at Maphisa business centre in Matabeleland South.
Zanu-PF Masvingo spokesperson Ronald Ndava confirmed the visit and said preparations for the rally, which is expected to be attended by thousands of people from all the province’s districts, are at an advanced stage.
“We are happy that the First Lady is visiting us. We are ready for her and the special state events committee is assisting us to prepare for the big day,” said Ndava.
He said transport to ferry people from all the districts has been mobilised.
Ndaba urged people to come in their numbers to meet the First Lady and brief her on the challenges they are facing.
UK based political analyst Dr Alex Magaisa believes that Mugabe’s advanced age has made it necessary for the wife to help lift the load off some of his duties.
“What we are seeing here is a “smart partnership” between husband and wife – with Mugabe utilising the agency of his wife to carry out some of his duties and Grace Mugabe willing to do so in order to extend the life of his presidency.
“The biological fact of Mugabe’s advanced age and diminished capacity that comes with it has not escaped notice. Mugabe and his wife are well aware of the challenges on both body and mind but also that the duties, political and administrative, have not diminished.
“He has to perform his executive duties as President of the country, but he must also perform his political role in Zanu PF,” Magaisa wrote.
