ZIMBABWE – A soldier, who resides at the Presidential Guards in Dzivaresekwa Extension, begged a Harare magistrate to assist him in divorcing his wife.
Mbonisi Ndlovu, 49, begged Harare magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti to put an order that would separate him from his wife, Grasia Jange, 51, since they were not staying happily in their marriage.
He told the court that his wife was very hostile towards him and she never liked his children.
Ndlovu said his wife hates his children despite the fact that he was also looking after her own children-she sired out of their union.
“I beg you, Your Worship, to put an order that would separate me from her (Grasia).
“The order must allow her to do her own things whilst I would be also doing my own things.
“The problem is that she does not like my children despite the fact that I am also looking after her own children.
“She is also hostile towards me,” he said.
Magistrate Muchuchuti told Ndlovu that it was not the duty of the court to separate couples.
And that if he was willing to terminate his marriage he was supposed to take the property legal channel.
“It is not the duty of the court to separate people.
“After sentencing you, you will go back home and live with your wife in peace.
“She is still your wife and if you wish to divorce her you have to take a legal way and approach the High Court,” said magistrate Muchuchuti.
Ndlovu was taken to court for shoving his wife following a misunderstanding sparked by a cell phone.
The 49-year-old admitted to physically abusing his wife before he was slapped with a US$50 fine.
Circumstances leading to Ndlovu’s arrest were that on December 16 at around 2am Grasia asked him to return the US$20 that he taken when he wanted to repair their car.
Ndlovu told her wife that she would be given the money by his son.
An altercation ensued ending up with Ndlovu assaulting his wife.
The 51-year-old went to lodge a complaint with the police leading to her husband’s arrest.
