ZIMBABWE – Joel Kurarama, 63, is reported to have assaulted Kelvin Chigodora using a hoe and his case was heard before magistrate Reward Kwenda at Mbare magistrates’ court yesterday.
Kurarama was released on free bail and is expected to appear in court next month for sentence.
It is the state’s case that on December 18, Kurarama assaulted his tenant Kelvin Chigodora after he failed to pay his rentals and bills.
It was proved that Chigodora owed Kurarama US$40 of rentals and water bills, he managed to pay US$30 which did not go down well with Kurarama who began assaulting him with handle of a hoe.
Kurarama pleaded guilty to the charges although he claimed that it was self defence.
“What actually took place on the day in question is I heard Chigodora fighting with his wife because of money, when I tried to stop them he began hitting me,” said Kurarama.
“I ran for my life and he began chasing me, when he caught up with me, we then engaged in a fight, I used the handle of the hoe to hit him if I had not done so, we would be saying something different today,” he said.
