ZIMBABWE – In a bid to avoid being arrested, a Chitungwiza man reportedly lied to police officers who had come to arrest him that the man whom they were looking for was dead.
Tinashe Munemiwa allegedly lied to police officers who had come to arrest him for defaulting paying US60 as maintenance to his former wife Heather Kufakunesu.
This came to light during a maintenance case where Tinashe was seeking a downward variation from the US$100 that he is paying as maintenance.
“The money cannot be reduced because as we speak he is owing me a lot of money, at one time he lied to the police who had come to arrest him that he had died so he is actually not taking the order which was granted by the court seriously,” said Heather.
Tinashe said he wanted money reduced since he was finding it hard to pay.
“The reason I am owing her maintenance is because I cannot pay the money that the court ordered me to pay.
“It is my wish that the money be reduced from US$100 to US$40 per month because if it doesn’t I will keep on getting arrested because I will be defaulting paying the money,” he said.
The presiding magistrate ordered Tinashe to first pay off the money he was owing Heather and then make a fresh application.
