ZIMBABWE – A Harare man was taken to court after he attempted to block a police officer from taking his relative to the police station after they were found in violent dispute with a certain lady.
Godknows Tarwireyi, who resides at Retreat New Stands in Waterfalls, appeared at the Harare magistrates’ court charged with ‘defeating the course of justice.
Tarwireyi was arrested after he attempted to thwart Samson Makirimani’s efforts to take his relative Taurai Tarwireyi to a police station.
Makirimani is a police officer.
It is said that on Christmas day at around 5pm Makirimani was walking to work when he came across with Godknows and Taurai in a violent dispute with a certain lady.
The court heard that Godknows was grabbing the woman handbag with intention to take it from her.
Makirimani reportedly ordered Godknows to release the handbag and he complied.
Reports are that the woman then confronted Taurai demanding her cell phones which she claimed he had taken from him.
Makirimani is said to have also ordered Taurai to give back the woman’s cell phones.
But he refused saying no one was supposed to butt into the matter the woman was a sex worker.
It was when Makirimani ordered Taurai and the woman to accompany him to Road Port police base.
He then reportedly grabbed Taurai by the belt I a bid to haul him to the police post.
Upon seeing that, Godknows also allegedly grabbed Makirimani by the belt and started dragging him in the opposite direction.
Makirimani is said to have warned Godknows to stop dragging him but it appears as if his efforts fell on dump ears.
A passerby then informed some police officers who were at the base, who then went to assist Makirimani and later apprehend Godknows.
Godknows was then taken to court charged with obstructing the course of justice.
