ZIMBABWE – Zimbabwe’s succession battles have reached critical levels after Sport and Recreation Minister Makhosini Hlongwane reportedly discovered a live bullet in his hotel room on Monday night.
According to News Day, Hlongwane, a former ally of Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa, said he was ‘worried’ about the latest developments, adding this could “expose his family to imminent danger”.
“I am not afraid to do my lawfully assigned duties, but this is worrying and very disturbing,” Hlongwane was quoted saying.
Police were yet to verify the reports before making an official statement, the report said.
Sources from the ruling Zanu-PF claimed that the discovery of the bullets in Hlongwane’s room had caused fear within the party as the factional wars escalate.
According to Zimbabwe Independent , Hlongwane, together with two other ministers, Tapiwa Matangaidze and Annastacia Ndlovu recently got appointed to ministerial positions. The development allegedly led them to defect to the group of young Turks, referred to as Generation 40 (G40), which is reportedly led by Grace Mugabe and Vice President Phekezela Mphoko.
The report revealed that the trio believed Grace was instrumental in their appointments.
