ZIMBABWE – The quartet consisting of two males Blessing Mugadza, 18, Tapiwa Chikandiwa, 22, and two females Linda Tobaiwa, 31, and Nyarai Musarurwa, 30, were picked selling pirated discs and pornography films at undesignated vending sites in the capital.
They were arrested yesterday morning and are expected to appear in court today.
National police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba confirmed the arrests.
Sources who spoke to H-Metro revealed that the quartet was picked for contravening the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Act and the Censorship and Entertainment Control Act.
“Blessing was arrested while selling pirated pornography discs at the corner of Chinhoyi Street and Albion.
“We are told they will be appearing in court tomorrow (today), however, the material will be sent to the censorship board for vetting before being submitted as evidence in court.
A vendor who identified herself as Felistus Jongwe registered her displeasure with the selling of pornographic material and hailed the police for the arrest.
“These people should be arrested because they are selling pornographic material in public which is contrary to our African values.
“As a result our children are becoming sexually active at a young age because they are exposed to such things,” she said.
