ZIMBABWE – Macheso has never staged a show since the beginning of the year while Sulu has joined the sungura kingpin by suspending shows this weekend.
“As much as we want to entertain our fans every weekend, there is also need for the band to recharge the batteries.
“We don’t have shows this weekend it’s been like that at our that we suspend shows at least two weeks the beginning of each year,” said Sulu’s publicist Joe Local.
Though Macheso routinely goes on leave the beginning of each year, claims are that he is using the time to finalise his much-awaited album.
However, other musicians like Jah Prayzah and Peter Moyo are continuing with shows though on a lower scale.
Jah Prayzah takes his ‘school uniform’ crazy to Dandaro Inn in the showground tonight.
Peter Moyo takes his action to Takarangana Night Club in Hatcliffe tonight and tomorrow he performs at Traveler Tarven in Dzivaresekwa.
Young Igwe’s communications manager Pliers Pureni said they will not suspend shows for the sake of their fans.
He, however, said they will just scale down to give band members some time to rest.
“We are continuing with shows and this Friday (tonight) we are in Hatcliffe, Takarangana and on Saturday we will be in Dzivaresekwa.
“Utakataka Express is a brand and the demand is hard to meet since we will need to reach all parts of the country,” said Pliers.
