ZIMBABWE – Batsman Hamilton Masakadza will lead Zimbabwe at the ICC World Twent20 in India next month as Zimbabwe Cricket announced a 15-man squad, in which the selectors recalled fast bowler Tendai Chatara and dropped Brian Vitori.
Also getting the ticket for the showpiece T20 event was Tinashe Panyangara who returned after recovering from a back injury. Like Panyangara, Chatara too has come back from an injury (fractured left leg) that he suffered during the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Besides Vitori, pace bowler Taurai Muzarabani was also overlooked for a place in the 15, along with opener Chamu Chibhabha.
Packing the squad with spinners, Zimbabwe named three of them for the spin-friendly Indian tracks. Graeme Cremer, Tendai Chisoro and Wellington Masakadza made it to the squad as specialists spinners.
Zimbabwe will feature in the four-team qualifying stage of the tournament that commences Feburary 19. Hong Kong, Scotland and Afghanistan are the other teams in the fray for the lone spot available for a qualifier to enter the main draw.
