Players dropped over match fixing

Zifa board member in charge of competitions, Benedict “Grinder” Moyo sid the mother body had instructed Mapeza to drop Cuthbert Malajila, Benjamin Marere, Guthrie Zhokinyu and Daniel Veremu who had been initially included in the squad.

Moyo said Zifa had asked Mapeza to drop the Dynamos trio of Malajila, Marere and Zhokinyu and Gunners’ Veremu from the Botswana game because the quartet had still not heeded a Zifa call to testify in the on-going probe into allegations of match-fixing during the Warriors’ controversial tour of Asia in December last year.

“We have asked the coach to leave out those who have not heeded the invitation to come and testify in the inquiry which is of national interest.

“It is not like we are choosing a squad for Norman but it must noted that we have sent out more than three invitations for everyone who was part of the Warriors set-up to come and testify so that we conclude this important exercise without any further delay.

“It is only those who have not heeded the call who have been affected for the Botswana trip but those who testified and were selected by the coaches are actually part of the squad.

The players become the latest victims of the match-fixing scandal whose biggest scalp so far has been that of Zifa CEO Henrietta Rushwaya.
