ZIMBABWE - HARARE - Home Affairs Minister Kembo Mohadi has ordered the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) crack riot unit to fight running battles with vendors and destitutes that have mushroomed Harare’s streets to eventually paint a picture that Zimbabwe is not a country in a comma as widely reported by the international media ahead of Koffi Annan's visit.

 

Koffi Annan, the former UN secretary general and high profile former US presidnent Jimmy Carter are scheduled to land in Harare to assess the level of humanitarian crisis in Zimbabwe.

 

Zimbabweans are wallowing under the pain of Robert Matibili Mugabe’s persistent cling on power despite him losing the 2008 March 29 elections to his rival Morgan Tsvangirai.

 

Tsvangirai skipped Registrar General Tobaiwa Mudede’s cheap political rhetoric and is currently in France on an international relations trail to bolster international support and relieve Zimbabweans from the lynchpin of ZANU PF oppression.

 

The USA president-elect Barack Obama recently slammed Mugabe for hiding behind his anti-colonial mantra to hide his glaring mismanagement of Zimbabwe.

 

An Assistant Commissioner at the General police headquarters confirmed to ZimDaily that ZRP is under strict instructions to register a heavy vigil along Harare city’s streets to quell any shred of evidence that might draw the attention of UN Secretary General Ban Kimoon’s delegation and cause scars on Robert Mugabe’s troubled regime.

 

“The Minister of Home Affairs Kembo Mohadi has summoned the top brass of the police and ordered them to cancel their siesta (leave) to ensure that the special operation is executed with zest. He told us to fight running battles with destitutes and vendors that have mushroomed Harare’s streets, especially at shop fronts to ensure that destututes do not portray Zimbabwe as a dying nation,” he said.

 

Meanwhile, trigger-happy riot details were seen disparagingly driving along Harare’s streets armed with teargas canisters, button sticks and an assortment of weapons sending shivers to passers-by that could sense danger gnawing at their doorsteps.

 

The Home Affairs ministry has been at the centre of the furore of ZANU PF and MDC with the latter arguing that the former has always manipulated the security organ as a willing tool to rig elections and physically abuse the ordinary man with impunity and should be given to the opposition.

 

In 1986 when Quen Elizabeth attended the CHOGM summit in Harare, Zimbabwe, residents of Mbare who lived in shacks code-named 'Zvinyeda' were evicted to remove a grotesque picture cum-eyesore to Her Majesty from one of Harare’s oldest suburbs.

 

The executors of the operation were stunned to realise that one member of the presidential guard was not only living there but had one of Mugabe’s escort bikes supporting one side of his 'Chinyeda' casting fears over the intactness of Matibili’s security machinery. 

 

The National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) headed by the “errand” Dr Lovemore Madhuku has already sharpened its hatchets to stage a demonstration on the day the UN delegation touches Harare.

 

Only last week, a sizeable number of riot police details were given a taste of their medicine when some members of the NCA waged an onslaught against them when they staged a demonstration to register their appetite for a new people-driven constitution.

 

The riot police details eventually called for reinforcements amid reports that their fellow details were physically assaulted in Harare and Mutare by distraught cash hunters at Stanbic and Barclays bank who joined in sympathy with NCA members to fire back at Mugabe’s dogs of terror.
