ZIMBABWE — In a true democracy, one's vote is supposed to be secret. I really wonder why anybody would have been opposed to this.

With Lovemore Moyo having been duly elected speaker of parliament through the most democratic way, (no violence, murder, rape, arson, torture or rigging, except wanton arrest of MDC MPs), he is probably the only candidate that was democratically elected in Zimbabwe this year.

Some would argue that the vote was along party lines. We have heard that it is the 10 ZANU PF MPs who voted for Moyo while others argue that it is the10 from the Ncube-Mutambara camp who spoiled the deal.

Yet another theory says Sithembiso Nyoni, Moyo's mother-in-law, may have played Mudede during this election.

The million-dollar question is; if a speaker of parliament is elected through a secret ballot, why should anybody want to know who voted for him or not?

Have we become so intolerant, uncivilised and undemocratic to the extent that we don't value the sanctity of one man one vote?

Whether it was ZANU PF or Mutambara MPs that changed the equation, the truth remains that those who voted for Lovemore Moyo, followed nothing but their conscience as dictated by national interest. That's how it should be!

ZANU PF, in its current form, will never win a free and fair election in Zimbabwe.

That message was loudly pronounced on Mach 29 and was repeated again in the august house on August 25.

I suspect that even those who claim to be staunch ZANU PF supporters or functionaries, given the chance, will vote for the MDC in a secret, free and fair ballot.

Parliament will never be the same again.,

Viva, democracy,  viva Moyo!!!
