The accolade was given to Gono by the Harvard University, although he did not attend the awards ceremony for his dubious distinction.

The Ig Nobel prize is normally reserved for the "worst career achievement" in the financial services sector.

Harvard did not explain how Gono earned the award.

But his citation credited "Gideon Gono, governor of Zimbabwe's Reserv Bank, for giving people a simple, everyday way to cope with a wide range of number by printing bank notes in denominations ranging from one cent ($0.01) to one hundred trillion dollars ($100,000,000,000,000).".

Gono was honoured last Thursday at Harvard University's Sanders Theater.

The 19th annual event with the theme "Risk," sponsored by the scientific humour magazine Annals of Improbable Research, featured real Nobel laureates handing out the prizes

Gono was not immediately available for comment. Gono, 49, is the current governor of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) and former CEO of the Jewel Bank, formerly known as the Commercial Bank of Zimbabwe.

Rapid expansion of the money supply happened on his watch and he has been blamed for contributing to Zimbabwe's hyperinflation

She asked a stock boy, “Do these turkeys get any bigger?”

The stock boy replied, “No ma’am, they’re dead.”!
