Masuku said she was disturbed by reports that insinuated that she was also in the running for the Vice-President’s post, left vacant following the death of Vice-President Joseph Msika in August.

“I don’t want my name to be spoilt as I am a principled person. My name should remain clean,” she said.

“In my opinion we have a leader who has done well in the Zanu-PF Presidium for many years.

He has not failed and there is no reason why he should be removed now.

That person is John Nkomo and I believe he should be rewarded for his sterling performance by moving up the ladder.

“What some people are now trying to do is to take a grade three pupil and make her or him a deputy headmaster. That does not work.”

Masuku also said although she was the Governor of Matabeleland South, she did not belong to the province politically.

“Politically I belong to Bulawayo Province. I am only in Matabeleland South for Government work.

So I will not attend the Provincial Co-Ordinating Committee meeting in Gwanda in tomorrow because that is for Matabeleland South,” she said.

I only attend their meetings when they invite me to explain Government programmes or when I feel there is something that they should know pertaining to the Governor’s office.”

On Sunday Masuku attended a meeting called by the Zanu-PF Bulawayo Province, which endorsed Nkomo to take over the Vice-Presidency.

The province reportedly felt Nkomo had a national outlook, as the former PF-Zapu was not a party for the people of Matabeleland alone.

Others who attended the meeting were Sikhanyiso Ndlovu, Eunice Sandi-Moyo, Joshua Malinga, Absalom Sikhosana and Isaac Dakamela.

On Friday Matabeleland South Provincial Co-coordinating Committee will hold its meeting in Gwanda to nominate a person to fill the VP’s post.
