ZIMBABWE — The thumping of the Zimbabwe warriors from both the world cup and the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers has unearthed a scum that the inception of Jose Claudinei Valinhos as national team mentor was Karikoga Kaseke the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) boss’ private project to extort foreign currency from the government.

A source at the ZTA’s Samora Machel offices has confirmed that Valinhos who does not have any notable soccer credential except that he was once an assistant coach of the Morocco national squad was roped into the rank and file of the Zim warriors as a conduit to extort foreign currency as Karikoga Kaseke, who detoured his secondary education at form two was reportedly getting constant kick-backs for creating employment for the Brazilian.

Reports say Valinhos’ earnings are catered for by ZTA.

During the reign of Charles Mhlauri as national team mentor, mystery once surrounded the sincerity of engaging one Dick de Boer as assistant coach to a local soccer “kingmaker” (Mhlauri).

When Zimbabwe was elbowed out of the regional soccer tournament, Dick de Boer slipped out of Zimbabwe without collecting his US$10 000 but a member of the technical team eventually signed for the loot and went on a feast.

Kaseke, infamous for his mischievous sexual exploits that led to his demotion to the position of chief executive from the chairmanship of ZTA  is reportedly a gold digger and played the front-runner of recommending to the government the engagement of the little-known Valinhos to take charge of the national team for the 2010 AFCON-World Cup campaigns.

According to information availed to ZimDaily, Valinhos paid Kaseke about US$5 000 to grease his palm for plotting for him the triumphant entry into the land of plenty – National team.

Efforts to get a comment from Kaseke were fruitless as his office confirmed that he was in marathon meetings with Goodwills Masimirembwa the erring boss of the toothless National Incomes and Pricing Commission (NIPC).

Masimirembwa is also reportedly applying the price controls selectively as most hotels where Kaseke has direct influence are left scot-free extorting money from guests.

Numerous theories emerged as to why the Warriors are always a disappointment to the nation and the one from an identified soccer player has opened a bucket of worms.

A disgruntled soccer player in the Caps United camp has spilled the beans that as the tentacles of corruption tempted Valinhos, he gave in to Luke Masomere  then coach of the troubled CAPS United never to include  “Washington Phakamisa, Lionel Mtizwa, George Karimupfumbi and Method Mwanjali in the national team line-up as they had refused to bribe the duo for them to wear national team colours.

According to the source, the selection of players for the national team is always determined not by talent but by one’s closeness and eagerness to part with a few dollars to the coaches. “Zimbabwe will never qualify for any tournament. I bet my last cent,” he said.

Meanwhile reports say Valinhos has vowed to stay put in Zimbabwe until his contract expires despite his charges having shamed the nation throughout their lacklustre showing at international level.

Valinhos believes he still has a role of developing soccer in Zimbabwe and he is here to stay.

Inside sources close to the Miss Tourism Authority say Kaseke’s heart is also heavily immersed with the models as some of the cat-walkers are also in the habit of flirting and sexually spoiling him during their time-offs. He reportedly pours money into modelling and is the god-father of the event*
