ZIMBABWE — The former president of South Africa Thabo Mbeki has reportedly sneaked into Zimbabwe to help break the impasse between the two feuding MDC and ZANU PF parties over the apportionment of ministries, a source at the Harare International Airport has confirmed to ZimDaily.
ZANU PF has been adamant refusing to parcel out the ministries of Finance and Home Affairs to Tsvangirai’s stable saying the latter portfolio was a quota of PF ZAPU in line with the 1987 Unity Accord, the assertion that was trashed as a ploy to remain holding forte all the ideological state apparatus to main the opposition in future elections if ZAPU PF was to reincarnate from the ashes of defeat.
A female security detail after being questioned by this publication why the environment appeared electric at the air terminal said, “Mr Quite Diplomacy was on his way to Zim for the talks ka.”
The disclosures coincided with the traditionally wailing sirens that enveloped the atmosphere in Harare this afternoon (Tuesday).
It is still yet to be seen if ZANU PF after being pressed by the African Union and the SADC will yield to the people's wish and offer Finance and Home Affairs to the MDC to end the impasse that has brought the country to a standstill.
If the Ministry of Finance goes to the MDC a new governor is in the offing to replace the inebriated Gideon Gono who wants to cause genocide in Zimbabwe through his archaic financial policies. He should start clearing his desk and drawers of personal belongings for the new tenant.
The names that have already been thrown into the ring to replace Gono includebusiness mogul l Nigel Chanakira of the thriving Kingdom Financial Holdings.
Meanwhile, in another separate report ZimDaily understands the rift between MDC formations and Zanu (PF) widened Tuesday after a meting involving the parties’ negotiators ended with the parties’ representatives exchanging harsh accusations.
ZimDaily obtained first hand information after the meeting and established probably only the pronouncement by either of the parties remains before it becomes official the power-sharing deal of September 15 is dead and buried.
Main wing MDC spokesman, Nelson Chamisa confirmed to ZimDaily the meeting of negotiators had exposed the deepening differences.
“After today’s meeting, it became clear that if we thought we were centimeters apart, we are in fact metres if not kilometers apart,” he said, implying the widening of the rift. “Zanu (PF) is not willing to cooperate and make the power sharing deal effective. They want to cling onto everything and that has stalled any progress.”
An official who attended Tuesday’s meeting spoke to us on condition of anonymity revealed, “It was a meeting characterized by chaos and tension, clearly underlining the differences we have and I don’t think in all honesty there can be any hope for a way out of this impasse.
There are fundamental differences that seem unavoidable because for your own information new problems have emerged.”
Zanu (PF) representatives, Patrick Chinamasa and Nicholas Goche were not available for comment whilst Welshman Ncube of the Mutambara MDC faction said he was not in a position to comment.
It was not clear what next move would be taken after the debacle of the Tuesday meeting but pressure was mounting of Tsvangirai to announce a pull out of the political settlement.
