Mpofu denies plotting Nkomo sodomy saga

Mines Minister Obert Mpofu with Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai
ZIMBABWE - HARARE – Mines minister Obert Mpofu has reacted furiously to reports that he is behind the smear campaign that has led to accusations that Zanu (PF) chairman John Nkomo sodomised a man in Bulawayo.
Mpofu has described as malicious reports that he is attempting to scuttle Nkomo's bid for the vice presidency, a position left vacant after the death of Joseph Msika.
Mpofu is in the running for the vice presidency even though he denies it according to a Zanu-PF source.
"I have no ambitions whatsoever to become vice president, so why would I be involved in this?" he asked.
Mncedisi Twala, 31, filed a police report last week claiming he was sexually abused by Nkomo in a Bulawayo hotel in April 2002.
Bulawayo’s top prosecutor has ordered a full-scale probe into Twala’s claims, which Nkomo vehemently denies.
The father-of-two has narrated in graphic detail how Nkomo lured him to the Presidential Suite of Bulawayo’s Rainbow Hotel where he alleges Nkomo performed oral sex on him.
Zanu-PF has also promised to leave no stone unturned, and want a full-scale probe.

The controversy has threatened to engulf John Nkomo’s bid to become the second Vice President, replacing Joseph Msika who died on August 4.
The allegations are also potentially damaging ahead of the Zanu PF congress in December where Nkomo could be challenged as chairman of the party.
The Zanu PF, a Nkomo supporter, insists the Minister of State for National Healing is the victim of a “political game”, although Thwala vehemently denies it’s a set-up.
