ZIMBABWE – CONTEMPORARY reggae crooner, Jah Prayzah, was yesterday the biggest winner at the Radio Zimbabwe Coca Cola Top 50 prize giving ceremony held in the capital.
Born Mukudzei Mukombe, the 25-year-old singer pocketed US$1 750 after his two songs Chirangano and Goch-Gochi came first and second respectively on the Top 50 conducted on December 31 2012.
Jah Prayzah, who was presented with the prize money together his wife Rufaro Chiworeso, could not hide his joy. Jah Prayzah was accompanied by his wife of three years, Rufaro Chihoreso.
The couple is blessed with one son, Mukudzei Junior He said: “I’m really happy today and I want to take this time to thank all my fans across the country who voted for my songs.
“I’m where I’m today because of the support from my fans, when you sit down and pen down some lyrics, you definitely do it for the fans and I’m excited because the fans appreciate me more than I ever expected.
“My beautiful wife and son have also been a great pillar of support. Thank you Coca Cola, thank you Radio Zimbabwe.”
The 25-year old, who has three albums to his name and currently working on the fourth, had five of his songs voted for into the Top 50 2012.
Jah Prayzah released his first album Rudo Nerunyararo in 2007 followed by Sungano Yerudo in 2009 and Ngwarira Kuparara which carries the hit songs, Chirangano, Gochi-Gochi and Maria in 2011.
Together with his band 3rd Generation, he has held a number of shows which have pulled crowds in the country and has also toured in United Kingdom.
Munyaradzi Munodawafa’s Zodzo came third, earning him $500 prize money while Enock ‘Nox’ Guni’s Ndinonyara was voted fourth and he received a prize money of $250.
