Morgan Tsvangirai, Zimbabwe’s opposition leader, has that elections next week were in danger of losing all credibility as a result of “clear manipulation and subversion” by President Mugabe.
Zimbabwe’s 6.4 million voters go to the polls on Wednesday for presidential, parliamentary and local council elections.
Mr Tsvangirai described them as the most important polls since independence in 1980, when Mr Mugabe came to power. It will be his third attempt to unseat the 89-year-old President.
Zimbabwe has enjoyed five years of modest economic growth under a coalition government between his MDC party and Mr Mugabe’s ZANU (PF).
