ZIMBABWE – Oliver Mtukudzi surely knows how to pamper himself when it comes to celebrating his birthdays.

The superstar, who turns 60 on September 21, has put up a stellar line-up of performing artistes for his birthday bash slated for the Glamis Stadium.

But what is more exciting is that Mtukudzi or simply Tuku to his legion of fans, will be airlifted in a helicopter from his home in Norton to the stadium where he will make a grand appearance.

Partson “Chipaz” Chimbodza, one of the organisers of the birthday bash, confirmed plans to fly Tuku in a chopper and blow everyone’s socks off their feet.

“There is so much going on at Tuku’s 60th birthday and fans should come in their numbers so that they don’t miss a thing. Among the highlights will be Tuku’s grand appearance in a chopper and, of course, the Dendera United,” Chipaz said.

Chipaz said somebody was kind enough to donate the helicopter for use at the birthday.
So far the organising committee has been working flat out to ensure that they deliver one of the most memorable gigs to date.

In what would be a first and definitely a plus, the “Tuku @60” birthday bash will be screened live on ZBCTV, which means that the event will be beamed to over five million Zimbabweans, making it a historic event.

The development came about after a partnership between ZBCTV and “Tuku @ 60” organising committee comprising Chipaz, Taka Mashonganyika, Watson Chidzomba and Josh Hozheri.

Topping the bill are South Africans Ringo Madlingozi, Steve Dyer and Auntie Dorothy Masuka of the “Gona Ramachingura” fame.

These are some of the artistes who are featured on Tuku’s collaborative album titled “Abi’angu” (My Friends).

Who doesn’t know the hit “Into Yami”, “Neria” or “Tindike”? It is highly likely that Tuku will be on stage throughout the evening performing some of the songs that he did with other musicians that include Suluman Chimbetu, ExQ and others who are also part of the bill.
