ZIMBABWE – Zanu-PF members have been urged to register as voters for them to fully exercise their right to vote in the forthcoming harmonised elections.
The party’s chairman for Harare province Amos Midzi said the party members should be geared for the polls expected anytime this year. He made the remarks during the launch of a ZanuPF voter registration campaign in Harare yesterday.
The campaign is meant to encourage the revolutionary party’s members to register as voters. “It is now definite that elections would be held this year,” said Midzi. “As such it is time we get into an election mood that starts with all members registering as voters.
“It is through voting that we can defend our sovereignty.” Midzi urged Zimbabweans to be peaceful and tolerate each other during the elections. The party, said Midzi, would select a provincial coordinating committee that will coordinate the voters’ registration process.
The registration process is expected to be complete by the end of March. Meanwhile, ZanuPF has started restructuring its structures in Matabeleland South province as the party gears up for the forth coming 2013 elections.
The party’s provincial deputy political commissariat Cde Patrick Khoza said the party was looking at restructuring all its cells and also urging their supporters to register on the voters’ roll. He said the programme started on this week and was set for completion on January 25.
Khoza said they had mobilised enough resources to conduct the exercise. He said they had also set up teams to supervise the restructuring programme.
He added that they held interdistrict meeting across the province were the supporters were informed about the commencement of the restructuring exercise.
