ZIMBABWE – A Harare man was dragged before the court by his wife in a maintenance wrangle.
Fungai Mukisha saw himself before the Harare civil court on allegations of failing to provide for his wife Constance Paradze and their two children.
Constance told the court that Fungai was neglecting his children and was demanding for $300 per month.
“I need US$100 for myself and the US$200 for our two children. We are legally married and he is not taking care of me.
“I work as an administrator in the government and per month I earn US$380. He used to help me look after the family but things just changed.
“He has stopped looking after us, I’m having problems providing for the family on my own.
“I decided to bring him to court since he could not give me reasons why he was not looking after his children,” she said.
In response, Fungai accused Constance of lying before the courts.
“This is not true your Worship, I have been looking after my family.
“She is just finding ways to extort money from me. I’m a business man and I have a good income.
“I look after my family and I cannot offer her any money. She is my wife and we have been looking after the family together.
“I provide anything my children need and I even take them for holidays,” he said.
Magistrate Barbara Mateko presided over the matter, she postponed the case to November 24.
She ordered Fungai to bring his bank statement to court.
