ZIMBABWE – A 33-year old man was yesterday sentence to an effective 12 months jail term for possessing dangerous drugs.
Kamonera Meeting of No. 3537 Ushewokunze was initially sentenced to 15 months imprisonment before three were suspended on condition of good behaviour.
Meeting appeared before Harare magistrate Tendai Mahwe facing three counts of possessing dangerous drugs, possessing unregistered medicines and possessing drug without a prescription.
The State led by Samantha Dhlamini proved that on 12 December detectives received information that Meeting was selling dagga at his house in Ushewokunze.
The detectives went to Meeting’s house and upon their arrival they introduced themselves to the accused person who went on to lock himself inside the house.
Meeting was ordered to unlock the door and he refused before he offered a bribe to the detectives who turned down his offer.
The detectives broke into the house and they found 1kg dagga, 5x100mls Bron clear and 110x 10 milligrams of diazepam medicine without a prescription.
Meeting was then arrested leading to his appearance in court.
