ZIMBABWE – A Chitungwiza man told the court that the divorce process he recently went through with his wife was bound to happen since they got married for wrong reasons.
Mike Majengwa said that he paid lobola for Catherine Kadani because he had impregnated her and not because he was in love with her.
Mike opened up at Chitungwiza magistrates’ court where he was taken by Catherine who was claiming US$100 as maintenance from him.
“It was not possible for us to reconcile since our marriage was a mistake from the start, it was a marriage of convenience since I had impregnated her and paying lobola seemed to be the only way out.
“I accepted when she said she wanted us to part ways because it was clear for the both of us that it was not working.
“I want to look after my child but all I want from her is to make a reasonable claim since she is fully aware I am not in a position to pay the amount,” said Mike.
Catherine told the court that Mike was in a position to pay the amount.
“I know he can give me the money, in any case that’s the amount of money which will carter for all the expenses I have for the child,” he said.
The presiding magistrate ordered Mike to pay US$80 per month as maintenance.
