ZIMBABWE – A CASCO logistics driver has been ordered to perform 420 hours of community service for stealing 28 tons of WORTH US$5000.
Prosper Kamwendo, 34, pleaded guilty when he appeared before Mbare magistrate Reward Kwenda charged with theft.
Kamwendo was sentenced to 24 months ,six months were suspended for five years, six months were suspended provided he restitutes the money worth the maize he stole,12 months were suspended on condition he performs 13 weeks community service from December 29.
The State led by Gerald Date proved that on November 27, was assigned by max Phiri from Evermore Freight Logistics in Zambia to ferry 28 tons of maize to Zimbabwe.
Phiri the logistics manager assigned Kamwendo to deliver the maize at profeeds.
Kamwendo is said to have charged US$1200 and EFL paid US$500 and promised to pay the remaining amount after Kamwendo had delivered his service.
Kamwendo is said to have sold the maize for US$3800 when he arrived in Zimbabwe at Aspindale garage.
Kamwendo then used the money to buy two cars.
EFL enquired with profeeds if they had received the maize they were expecting only to discover it had not been delivered.
EFL lodged a complaint with the police leading to Kamwendo’s arrest.
