ZIMBABWE – Anyone with the urge to go for a mid-winter dip in Kalamalka Lake while helping a good cause will get their chance during the Vernon Winter Carnival.
While it is held on New Year’s Day in several Okanagan communities, the Vernon polar bear swim will take place during carnival on Feb. 7 at Kal Beach.
Along with having some winter fun, the event will also raise money for The Zimbabwe Projects, a Vernon-based organization with a goal of helping people in the African nation to make a better life for themselves.
The project’s mission statement is “to help impoverished children and families in Zimbabwe by creating opportunities for education, health care, child care and community sustainable projects.”
The group is doing this by helping children receive an education, and with various agricultural programs. It also operates community programs and works closely with various Zimbabwe organizations.
