ZIMBABWE – Youthful sungura musician Peter Moyo and his band escaped death hours into the new year after they were involved in a car crash on their way to Beitbridge.
The musician said the vehicle BMW 318I veered off the road just after Bubi, avoiding a head on collision with an oncoming vehicle.
“We were traveling to Beitbridge and the accident occurred just after Bubi. The vehicle veered off the road as we were avoiding a head on collision. A motorist appeared from the other direction and he encroached into our lane,” he said.
The young Igwe sustained minor injuries and was taken to Beitbridge hospital for treatment before being discharged.
“I sustained some minor injuries and was taken to hospital but I have since been discharged. The other guys have been injured, I did not have the chance to see them and I’m told they are still in hospital,” he said.
The accident has grounded the musician during this festive season as his key instrumentalists have been injured.
Those injured are lead guitarist Willard ‘Willo’ Loti, bass guitarist Saviours and dancer Bismarck.
Reports are that Bismarck sustained a broken arm and was taken to Mwenezi General Hospital for treatment while the other members were taken to Beitbridge hospital for treatment.
The show has been cancelled according to insiders.
This is not the first time that Saviours has been involved in a car crash with the Utakataka express camp.
Peter was also involved in another accident this year in the capital.
