ZIMBABWE – Edwin Ruuke attacked his wife Ottilia Mupande and left her nursing swollen black eyes and a swollen face.

It is said that he assaulted her after accusing her of cheating on him since the contact was saved as ‘Chikomba’.

When he asked her about it she failed to give him a satisfactory answer leading him to beat her up in a bid to make her confess.

Ruuke appeared before Mbare magistrate Shelly Zvenyika for contravening the Domestic Violence Act.

He pleaded guilty and was remanded to today for sentencing since his wife had not sought medical attention.

Magistrate Zvenyika ordered her to go and get a medical affidavit since her face and eyes were still swollen.

Prosecutor Liberty Gono proved that on January three the couple were at home, when Ruuke asked Mupande who Chikomba was.

She told him that he was a builder.

This answer did not satisfy Ruuke and she punched and booted Mupande accusing her of being a prostitute.

She managed to escape and then lodged a complaint with the police leading to Ruuke’s arrest.
