ZIMBABWE – Alice Makanaka pleaded not guilty when she appeared before Mbare magistrate Anita Tsuma charged with physical abuse.
Makanaka was initially sentenced to nine months which were wholly suspended on the condition she does not commit a similar crime in five years
The State proved that on November 21, Makanaka and Chrispen Nyama had a disagreement concerning a matter of the man makanaka used to date before they got married.
Nyama had found out that makanaka had been communicating with her ex-boyfriend and when he asked her a dispute arose.
Makanaka denied ever getting in touch with her ex.
Nyama asked to see Makanaka’s phone to make sure that she was telling the truth.
When she assumed Nyama had finished using her phone Makanaka then asked for her phone from him.
When Nyama refused Makanaka is alleged to have turned violent and reached for a pot of porridge and poured it on Nyama’s face.
Nyama then lodged a complaint with the police leading to Makanaka’s arrest.
Makanaka admitted she had poured porridge on Nyama but she explained to the court that the accident became the end result after she tried to defend herself.
