ZIMBABWE – Four Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) members in the Mashonaland East province have been fired from the executive on charges of causing divisions and recruiting for the People First project.
Sources this week confirmed the dismissal of Joshua Kativhu, Lynn Gororo, Thomas Kunaka and one Thomas Chiweshe.
According to the sources, the ZNLWVA provincial leadership met last weekend at the Zanu PF provincial offices where a decision to dismiss the four was made. Before that, all the ZNLWVA districts in Mashonaland East had signed the petition to dismiss the four.
The real reason why they were dismissed is that they have been found guilty of being part of the People First, the source said.
They are accused of moving around the province with known People First guys, recruiting members. People in the districts where they come from confirmed this and it was then agreed to dismiss them from the positions in the provincial executive, he said.
People First is a yet to be launched political party, reportedly fronted by former Zanu PF deputy president, Joice Mujuru.
The proposed party is said to be building a base across the country and has in the process been giving Zanu PF a strong challenge and sleepless nights.
In a statement last week and before the dismissal of the four members, the ZNLWVA provincial leadership warned that it was going act against members who were destabilising the association and undermining its national leadership.
The ZNLWVA Mashonaland East Province has noted with concern that there are some members within the national executive who are on an anti-revolutionary mission, a statement signed by the provincial secretary-general, Stanford Maguma said.
Efforts to get a comment from Maguma on the expulsions were unsuccessful.
Recently, Joel Biggie Matiza, Zanu PF provincial chairman, told the state media that reports of People First gaining ground in Mashonaland East were false.
