ZIMBABWE- A 33-YEAR-OLD Kuwadzana 1 man has been fined for stealing US$19 from his considerate colleague who had decided to quench his thirst for beer.
Tasaraona Chatikobo pleaded guilty when he appeared before Mbare magistrate Gladys Moyo charged with theft.
Tasaraona was sentenced to two months in prison which were wholly suspended for five years on the condition that he does not commit the same crime.
Tasaraona was then ordered to pay a US$50 fine or spend five days in prison.
The State led by Fanuel Madanire proved that on May 25 around 7pm, Tasaraona asked for money from Shakespear Chatikobo, 43, claiming he wanted to buy a pint of beer since he also claimed it had been long since he had alcohol.
From Shakespear’s knowledge a pint of beer costs US$1, he gave Tasaraona US$20 and expected his change back.
Shakespear said he had told Tasaraona to come back with the remaining US$19 and he assured he would do as he promised.
When Tasaraona went to buy his beer he never returned, Shakespear then decided to call him requesting for his money back but Tasaraona did not return with the money.
Shakespear lodged a complaint with the police after realising Tasaraona did not see anything wrong with what he did.
