ZIMBABWE – A 60-YEAR-OLD man from Kuwadzana reportedly struck his former lover with a brick and smashed her cellphone for breaking up with him.
Agrippa Mapurisa is said to have lost his temper days after his girlfriend Martha Matiza, 33, broke up with him.
Matiza broke up with him after she realised that he had lied to her that he was a widower when in fact his wife is still alive.
Mapurisa allegedly attacked Matiza at her vegetable stall in Kuwadzana.
It is said he went to Matiza’s stall and asked her why she no longer loved him. She told him to go back to his family and that she did not want trouble.
He allegedly picked a brick and struck her on the chest and she fell down.
He is further accused of taking a stone and striking Matiza on the right eye.
Mapurisa went on to snatch her cellphone and smashed it.
He then went away leaving her in pain.
She was helped by other vendors.
Matiza then reported the matter to the police leading to Mapurisa’s arrest.
Mapurisa denied the allegations when he appeared before Mbare magistrate Gladys Moyo facing physical abuse and malicious damage to property charges.
He was remanded to January 29 for trial on free bail.
