HARARE – The Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ) has issued a public statement informing that 14 applicants have been shortlisted for Free-to-Air National Commercial Television Broadcasting Services.
Zimpapers Newspapers (1980) Ltd is part of the shortlisted applicants.
Zimbabwe currently has a very narrow broadcasting space in the television sector with ZBC enjoying a monopoly. However, the company has failed to provide satisfying content with many Zimbabweans opting for foreign channels such as SABC and Dstv services.

Another criticism always levelled against ZBC is its political partisanship which has led to its failure to provide for diverse views and opinions.
The statement highlighted that the applicants are still yet to undergo public hearings to determine their suitability to be licensed.
