BULAWAYO – The Bulawayo City Council (BCC)has dismissed claims that a fire broke out at Fernhill Booster Station yesterday which had caused panic among residents fearing that another water-shedding schedule was looming.
This follows an audio that was widely circulated claiming a fire had broken out at Fernhill and advising residents to stock up water.
In a statement, the city’s Town Clerk Christopher Dube said the audio was false and malicious adding that water pumping remained normal and at maximum.
“The City of Bulawayo would like to advise members of the public that the audio currently making rounds on social media claiming that there was a fire outbreak at Fernhill Booster Station yesterday on Wednesday, 28 April 2021 and advising residents to stock up on water is false and malicious,” said Dube.

“The fire that on the audio is purported to have occurred at Fernhill Booster Station in actual fact occurred at one of the illegal miners (Makorokoza) camps quite a distance from the Booster Station. It did not reach the station and was not even visible from the Booster Station. Council wishes to advise residents to ignore the false social media audio circulation as the city’s water pumping remains normal and at maximum.”
The Town Clerk further advised residents to ignore information they get from unofficial Council communication platforms.
