HARARE – Veteran investigative journalist, Hopewell Chino’no was on Tuesday arrested by the police, this time for one of his tweets which questioned the alleged capture of the judiciary by Chief Justice, Luke Malaba.
It is reported that Chino’no was arrested for contempt of court and this was confirmed by one of his lawyers, Doug Coltart.
“I can confirm that Hopewell Chin’ono has been arrested on charges of contempt of court relating to a tweet. I’m currently out of Harare but managed to speak with him via phone. He is being held at Harare Central Police station & has been attended to by @ZLHRlawyers,” said Coltart.
Chino’no recently tweeted something concerning the letter by judges who were petitioning President Mnangagwa to intervene as they accused Malaba of capturing the judiciary.
He wrote,” The day I was denied bail in July, Chief Justice Malaba was seen leaving the magistrates court in the morning.
“The judges letter says that he tells magistrates how to rule. The same happened when I was denied bail at the High Court. How can we go to courts which cook judgments?”
