HARARE – Veteran investigative journalist, Hopewell Chino’no will on Friday learn the fate of his latest bail application following the submissions made by his lawyers and the Prosecution on Wednesday.
Justice Tawanda Chitapi said he will deliver the judgement on Friday at 11.30 AM – in the case of the State vs Chino’no, where the latter is accused of defeating the course of justice following the comments he made on social media platforms about the National Prosecuting Authority.
The comments were related to the ongoing gold smuggling case involving former ZIFA Boss, Henrietta Rushwaya.
Chino’no has been detained for over 2 weeks now and was denied bail last week by Magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa.
Gofa ruled that he must remain caged as he has “a propensity to commit offences.”
However, Chino’no’s lawyers appealed against Magistrate Gofa’s decision arguing that “she erred and misdirected herself when she refused to set the freelance journalist free.”
Chino’no is set to stand trial for another separate case in December, answering to the charges of inciting public violence.
