ZIMBABWE – A city cop allegedly swindled US$300 from her social club secretary in the pretext that one of their club members was ill.
Hazvinei Kuneta who is stationed at a police camp in Highfield misrepresented that her housemate Patronella Chikukwa was in hospital and in need of money to pay the bill.
In fact Chikukwa was on maternity leave at her rural home when Kuneta hatched a plan to dupe the club secretary.
She allegedly collected the money in question and converted it to her own use.
This was discovered when Chikukwa returned from leave.
A complaint was then lodged with the police leading to Kuneta’s arrest.
Kuneta denied allegations when he appeared before Mbare magistrate Reward Kwenda facing fraud charges.
In her defence she argued that she used the money to visit Chikukwa when she gave birth.
She was remanded to January 28 for judgment.
Allegations are that on July 3 last year Kuneta went to Linda Musakwa and claimed US$300 from her.
She is said to have argued that she wanted to use the money to pay for Chikukwa’s hospital bills.
However she did not give the money to Chikukwa.
The matter came to light when Chikukwa was asked by the club members if she had received their contributions.
