MATEBELELAND SOUTH – Seventeen Covid-19 cases have been recorded at Mtshabezi High School in Matabeleland South.
Reports are that most of the cases recorded are students and all those infected have already been placed in isolation.
It is further reported that a team from the Ministry of Health and Child Care has already been dispatched to the school to monitor the situation.
Schools in Zimbabwe have recently recorded a sharp rise in Covid-19 cases, with many fearing that they are increasingly becoming hot spots for the novel coronavirus.
Some stakeholders including Teacher’s Unions have called for closure of schools and that examinations be rescheduled to next year.
However, the government remains adamant that the examinations should go on as planned and have said that measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of everyone.
Adding that they have set up facilities to ensure even those who have tested positive for the virus will be able to write their exams in isolation.
