ZIMBABWE – Government is considering evacuating people from areas in Manicaland that may be possibly vulnerable to flash floods if Cyclone Chalane hits Mozambique.
However, Chimanimani East legislator Joshua Sacco said the evacuations had not started as the cyclone may change it’s path and not affect Zimbabwe.
Senior meteorologist at AccuWeather Jason Nicholls yesterday on Twitter said the tropical cyclone may strike north-east Madagascar on Saturday or Sunday and could move to Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
Tropical depression 4 has formed NNE of the Mascarene Islands and can become Moderate TS #Chalane on Thursday or Friday. Storm will strike NE #Madagascar Saturday or Sunday, local time. Low or depression can enter #Mozambique Channel early next week. pic.twitter.com/WSwKSn2n1P

The Department of Civil Protection has already started making plans on measures that could be taken in the event.
If the cyclone hits Chimanimani, this will be the second time the area is affected by a cyclone in less than two years after Cyclone Idai devasted the area last year in March.
