ZIMBABWE – A city driver has been banned from driving any car for six year after he was convicted for driving without a license and causing an accident which resulted in the death of another man.
Lucky Andrigo was ordered to pay US $100 or spend one month in prison for driving without a license, he was also sentenced to 18months in prison of which five were suspended for five years.
The remaining 13 were suspended on condition that he completes 450 hours of community service at waterfalls district office.
He was then ordered not to drive any vehicle for six years.
This was after he pleaded guilty before Mbare magistrate Kudzai Zihove to charges of driving without a license and culpable homicide.
Allegations are that on September 26 at around 1am, Andrigo drove a Toyota Spacio along Simon Mazorodze road without a driver’s license and caused an accident.
He collided with a Mazda B1600 being driven by Johannes Runyowa.
Elias Koga who was a passenger in the Mazda B1600 died on the spot as a result of the accident.
The deceased’s body was taken to Harare Central Hospital where a post mortem was conducted.
The report was used in court as evidence and the cars were both damaged.
