HARARE – Government is targeting to receive monthly deliveries of at least one million doses of the Covid-19 vaccines, Finance and Economic Development minister Mthuli Ncube has said.
In a statement, the day after the arrival of 1056 000 Sinovac doses from China, Professor Ncube said the country had mobilised US100 million for the procurement of the vaccines.
“The Government of Zimbabwe has mobilised US$100 million towards the purchase of Covid-19 vaccines to cover a significant portion of the population in order to achieve herd immunity.
“I am pleased to announce that Government has this week received 1, 056.000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines purchased from China, which are being made available to Zimbabwe Citizens free of charge at designated vaccination centres.
“Going forward, the country will be receiving about one million doses of Covid-19 vaccines per month from additional purchases aimed at reaching the herd immunity target,” Ncube said.
Ncube added that the government had received a concessions tariffs offer from DHL for shipment of the vaccines.

Zimbabwe rolled out its vaccination programme in February after receiving a donation of 200 000 jabs of the Sinopharm vaccine from China.
