HARARE – Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe on Wednesday announced that government will enforce the lockdown restrictions during the festive season to ensure that people do not host parties which are currently prohibited as part of the measures put in place to combat the spread of Covid – 19.
Kazembe was speaking during the launch of Combined Festive Season Awareness Campaign by Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ), Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (ZINARA) and the Zimbabwe Republic Police .
He cited the rise in Covid -19 cases which has raised fears of a second wave as the reason for this stance by government.
“We are not yet out of the COVID-19 woes but the country is in the second wave of the virus. Parties will not be permissible during the festive season,” he said.
However, he added that the weddings will be allowed but still with limited numbers.
The minister for Transport and Infrastructure Development, Joel Matiza was also present and cautioned the public to adhere to road rules to ensure everyone’s safety.
