The City of Harare has appointed Ward 9 councillor Stewart Mutizwa as Acting Mayor, in the interim.
At a confusion filled, local government ministry directed special council meeting, the councillors resolved to await the end of the festive season to substantively elect acting mayor to steer the ship until finalisation of court cases against suspended councillors, as they could not reach the needed 17 councillors quorum.

The seasoned Cllr Mutizwa said Council should selfishly work towards service delivery to the satisfaction of ratepayers and stakeholders.
“I am here to serve. We want to steer the ship so that it starts moving. It is my prayer for us to unite for one selfish reason, that of serving our residents. I am not one such person who indicates left and turn right.”

“Let us all join our hands and make sure that we bring back sanity to our city and normalise the city going forward.
We want harmony and we want service delivery for the city. It can only be done through collective efforts. So let us join our hands, councillors included and officials included. It is my prayer that God will continue blessing this city. We are all here to serve our city and our residents,” he said.
