ZIMBABWE – A Harare man was dragged to the civil court by his ex-wife who accused him of stealing his own child from her house when she was not around.
Talent Matsika who was demanding custody of their 12-year-old daughter told the court that her ex-husband Collins Matare took the child without her consent.
Matsika said:
“I left my child in the custody of my elder sister for work, around midday I received a phone call from my sister telling me that the child was missing.
“I later learnt from Matare that he took the child claiming that he can do a better job than me in taking care of the child.
“The manner in which he took the child is not tolerable and I pray that I be granted the custody of the child,” she said.
In response Matare said:
“The child came to my house complaining that she was not happy with her living conditions.
“She also told me that she no longer wants to stay with her mother because of her lover who constantly beat her so the applicant is lying that I stole the child,” he said.
Presiding magistrate Reward Kwenda ordered Matare to bring the child to court for an interview before postponing the matter to December 23.
