HARARE – Harare Province Development Coordinator, Tafadzwa Muguti has been sucked into a shady land deal after a leaked offer letter from Chitungwiza Municipality dated 5 July 2019 revealed that he received a commercial stand for ZWL$ 34 971.50.
This is less than US$500 if you one is using the prevailing rate from the foreign currency auction system.
In the offer letter, Muguti is offered around 3800 square meters and is charged $8 per square meter.
“With reference to your application to acquire an industrial stand, we wish to advise you that your application has been successful. This offer is to lease stand number 30432 measuring approximately 3800 square meters located in Ticor Industrial area, Zengeza. If you accept the offer a lease agreement will be drawn for signature after payment of the total stand price,” read part of the offer letter.
The letter also states that the recipient is to pay 30% of the price then settle the balance in 12 months.
Muguti has responded to the leaked letter saying these were attempts to smear his name and try to stop him from going after land barons and cleaning up corruption.

His office has recently been leading the front in arresting Council officials who are mainly aligned to the opposition MDC Alliance which has led to some concerns that this is a coordinated attack on the opposition and not a genuine attack on corruption itself.
