CHITUNGWIZA – A desperate mother has turned to members of her community to assist her in raising funds to take her child to a private hospital for treatment following the baby’s discharge from Chitungwiza General Hospital after only administering a drip on the badly burnt child. Seeking for help in a local WhatsApp group, the mother said she had not gotten any assistance at the hospital.”There is no pain medication. There is nothing. They only put a drip on the child and nothing else. They said they don’t have medication to treat the baby,” the baby’s parent said.
Another resident chirped in saying “Ini I was there nemwana handiudzirwe nemunhu.Bandage chairo hakuna. (I was at the hospital with my sick child, I know first hand the situation there. They don’t even have mere bandages.)I had to go outside the hospital to get Paracetamol syrup & Erythromycin for my daughter.””Anoda kurapwa kuhospital mwana uyo not kukweshwa kumba anoita infection iye anozoda mainjections. Ngavandibate amai vacho tione kuti vangabatsirwa here. Wangu akatsva twugumwe two twemutsoka ndakaita three weeks ndiri muhospital achikweshwa nemanurse.
Wega kumba hauzvikwanisi munhu. (The child needs to be treated at the hospital, not to try home treatment because the burns may get infected and will need injections. She must get hold of me to see if they can get assistance. Mine also got burnt on two toes and we spent three weeks in hospital getting treatment. On your own at home you won’t manage.)” Another resident said. This conversations comes at a time government is on to Hopewell Chin’ono for aptly describing the state of public hospitals in Zimbabwe.
