HARARE – The Warriors pulled an impressive come back to draw with Algeria and claim a point in the AFCON Group H reverse fixture played on Monday at the National Sports Stadium in Harare.
It seemed like another defeat was on the cards for Zimbabwe after the Desert Foxes scored two quick successive goals to lead the game by the 38th minute.
Andy Derlot found himself clear in the box and headed past Talbert Shumba to put the visitors ahead.
Four minutes later, Riyad Mahrez skillfully dribbled Adam Chicksen, turning him on both sides before firing a shot on his right foot for the second goal.
In the 42nd minute, Knowledge Musona put the Warriors back in the game through a stunning free-kick.
The Warriors skipper had been denied by the crossbar earlier.
Warriors coach, Zdravko Logarusic rang in the changes at the start of the second half, bringing in more firepower as he threw in Khama Biliat, Kudakwashe Mahachi, Ovidy Karuru and Devine Lunga.
The Warriors started creating more chances and in need of a goal, Logarusic threw in his last card in the form of Prince Dube in the 81st minute.
Dube quickly repaid the faith put in him.
With 8 minutes left on the clock and the hosts were awarded a corner kick
From the resulting corner, the ball fell right in front of the unmarked Dube at the far post and his shot hit Mbolhi before rolling into the net.
