HARARE – Vice President and Health Minister Constantino Chiwenga will be receiving the first shot of the Sinopharm vaccine at Wilkins Hospital in Harare.
Zimbabwe received a donation of 200 000 doses of the Chinese produced vaccine on Monday and is set to roll out its first phase of the vaccination programme targeting health workers today.
The inaugural vaccination will be at Wilkins Hospital in Harare with the rest of the vaccines set to be distributed to other provinces in the coming days.
Amid growing scepticism over the safety and efficacy of the Sinopharm vaccine due to various reports circulating in the media, Chiwenga will be the first person to take the jab in a bid to allay the fears.
Yesterday, South Africa’s president Cyril Ramaphosa became the first citizen to take the jab as South Africa rolled out its programme.
