ZIMBABWE – A butcher offered his baby mama US$25 for the upkeep of their minor child citing that he had a lot of responsibilities.
Cleopas Marufu told Grace Nyirenda that their daughter was still young to require US$150 she was claiming.
“Our daughter will survive with the money I am offering because she is of a tender age and her needs are still minimum.
“I suspect that her mother wants the money for her own use because she is in the habit of squandering money.
“I have bigger responsibilities to take care of, and the money I get from work is not enough,” he said.
In her application Grace was demanding US$150 to take care of their two-year old child.
“The money he is offering is too little considering that our child is going to crèche.
“He should at least give me US$100 as I am failing to take care of the child alone. The child is also his responsibility so he should consider her as his priority too,” she said.
Magistrate Trevor Nyatsanza, who presided over the matter, ordered Cleopas to pay US$70 beginning February 29.
